5th Aster Summer Camp for Emerging Leaders of Family Businesses

Friday, June 24 – Wed. June 29, 2022
An Exclusive Private Villa in Denmark
Limited to 12 emerging leaders aged 18 – 40

Back after two years of the COVID break, an exclusive program has been designed for Emerging Leaders who are custodians of family businesses. Design thinking learning sessions, peer learning, collaboration, and activities.

Regardless of age, gender, industry, and country, emerging leaders of family businesses face similar challenges:

  • Smooth succession planning in the businesses and family matters
  • Growing responsibilities of wealth custodians with complex compliance issues and social responsibility
  • Balancing personal aspirations and family expectations
  • Challenges of following the steps of founders and being in the shadow of a giant
  • Enjoying life and responsibilities

The program provides an opportunity to share experiences and insights from peers who are in a similar situation. We learn the latest management trend design thinking and apply it to what is important for us whether it is the family business, a start-up, impact project, or personal life. It’s an opportunity to take 5 full days off and focus on personal development, strategy, learning, and development.

Every Summer, Aster Coop, a cooperative family office for family-owned businesses, organizes an exclusive Summer camp for the emerging leaders, the next generation of leaders of family-owned businesses. Globally there is a wave of generational change happening in family-owned businesses as baby boomer generations who are now 60 years and older are preparing for the transition to the next phase in life, mentoring and advising. We focus on topics that are relevant to them, how to be a responsible custodian of wealth. More wealth means more responsibilities, not just personally but also socially.

A majority of the world’s wealth is created by family-owned businesses. Today family-owned businesses are recognized as important and dynamic participants in the world economy. About 90 percent of businesses worldwide are family-owned or controlled. New business is fueled by family involvement. 85 percent of start-ups worldwide are established with family money. That’s why nurturing and sustaining family-owned businesses are important.

Denmark is known for its high-quality design and architecture. We will learn design thinking, an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding. At the same time, Design Thinking provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It is a way of thinking and working as well as a collection of hands-on methods. The participants will apply it to their current work or projects and learn by doing.

  • What is design thinking and why is it is effective?
  • Design thinking for business strategy
  • Design thinking for entrepreneurship
  • Designing thinking for the greater good
  • Applying design thinking to my life

At the end of program, participants will achieve the following:
