Alea Earth
We are working on a world first vertical farming and green energy ecosystem solution for Kuwait. This will be the first project from our new division, Alea Earth, and will open up the possibility for similar projects around the world.
This pioneering project will bring the world’s first large-scale vertical farm powered by biomass energy to Kuwait. Kuwait has a number of problems that can be solved with a single innovative system such as the one we’re building.
We have a waste problem, with our waste output set to double by 2050 and with up to 76% of our waste ripe for recycling but not currently being recycled. We also have a self-sufficiency problem, with inhospitable growing conditions that mean we must import much of our food.
With technology from Agrivert, Jones Food Company and Biofabrik, we will revolutionize the way Kuwait produces both food and energy, making both sustainable and local through cutting edge tech and re-education of the population. Waste food and plastic will be used to power vertical farms that would otherwise be too expensive to operate, creating a closed loop system that changes our whole way of life on a daily basis. Pure Energy acts as the consultant for Alea Earth.
How will it work?
Addressing our plastic waste problem, five WASTX units from Biofabrik will convert 25,000 kilograms of waste per day, producing gas and oil which can be converted into usable and saleable energy.
Making use of our food waste, Agrivert’s anaerobic digestion plant will have a 2.4 MWe generation capacity and can process up to 150 tonnes per day of waste which can also be turned into energy.
These energy sources will help to power the Jones Food Company vertical farm, with its growing footprint of 8000 m2 Feeding the energy facilities will be food and plastic waste that would otherwise go to landfill, recycling it as part of a circular ecosystem that will give Kuwait new food security.
We are particularly proud to be bringing this project to our home country, and to a country formerly better known for its fossil fuels. We hope to help Kuwait lead the way in whole system change.
